Moving Tips
To Prepare for a move, there are many steps that can be done to ensure that the moving process goes smoothly. Planning a successful move can seem overwhelming because of the many factors at play. The first step is to decide on how much of the moving process you want to be involved in yourself and how much you want to leave to the professionals. We offer a list of services that include loading, unloading, transportation, furniture disassembly, furniture assembly, packing, unpacking, staging, and general labor help. We are able to assist you in a full service move or you may choose to do any of these parts yourself to save time and money. Many moving companies will force customers into paying extra money or add hidden fees to the cost of the move for these services that are not always necessary. We will be flexible and adapt to exactly what you need so that you have full control over how your move goes.
Packing Tips
Packing is the most tedious part of the move. It takes the most time and sometimes longer than expected. Packing properly ensures that your items can be transported safely and easily unpacked. When packing boxes, or reusable containers be sure to use their full capacity but don’t overfill. This makes stacking and moving boxes/containers much easier and safer. If a box/container is not fully packed others stacked on top can compromise and crush it. If a box/container is overfilled, others can’t be stacked on top of it and if it’s too heavy, it can break the box/container and crush others. Proper labeling is crucial to a safe move, such as; ‘FRAGILE’, ‘TOP BOX’, ‘NO STACK’, ‘HEAVY’, etc. This ensures you and the movers know how to properly handle and transport items. Labeling items with the correct room or area keeps everything organized for the unload. Fragile/delicate items should be labeled accordingly and packed in boxes/containers with extra padding wrap and cushioning leaving no room to shift. Most furniture and items should be covered with protective blankets and plastic wrapped so that it can be transported without damage. Loose items should be organized and packed away as best as possible. Loose items often take extra time to load and can be damaged, or damage other items if not packed properly prior to loading. If you plan to have us do the packing, make sure to give a detailed inventory of the items that need to be packed so we can get the necessary packing materials.
Moving Day Tips
When moving day arrives be sure to have an area where the box truck can be parked and is close/accessible to where your belongings will be loaded from or unloaded. Give yourself time prior to our arrival to finish up any tasks you need to complete so we are able to start on time and work efficiently. Clear walkways and items off of furniture that needs to be moved. Do a walk through with us so we can get a layout of the location and a plan of attack. Explain to us what to expect and go over any special care notes for items in the house, such as fragile/delicate items or a priority list. Throughout the move we will check in to ensure things are moving along how you need. Once the move is completed, do a final walk through and we will assist with any changes or extra help you may need.
Transportation Tips
We are experts in transporting items in various ways. Knowing the proper steps of transporting items makes moving simple and stress free. If you are transporting your belongings yourself, make arrangements to have a proper vehicle or storage pod that can accommodate all of your items. Usually planning to have a little more space than needed is best because often you don’t realize how much space your belongings will take up until it is loaded. Whether it’s a storage pod, box truck, or personal vehicle, your items should be able to stay secure through the length of the trip. Proper tie down points to secure belonging is a must to keep everything in place and not shift or fall. Finally, having a good area to unload items safely at the new location makes finishing up the move easy and fast.
